The Sacramento Valley Association of Building Officials (SVABO) Building Inspector Forum is a monthly virtual discussion designed for inspectors to share experiences, ask questions, and collaborate on common field challenges.

SWIMMING POOL BARRIERS

• • Does your jurisdiction have an official policy for barriers?
  • What is considered a part of the barrier?
  • Are doors providing access to the pool area required to be self-closing and self-latching?
  • Checking for door alarms still in place at final?
  • How many times are alarms initialed by inspectors and reused?
  • Will any 2 of the 7 California approved safety feature meet compliance requirements?
  • Any exceptions for large lots and what acreage will trigger the exceptions?
  • Is there a minimum valuation for permittable work that triggers new barrier requirements?

ALTERATION VS NEW CONSTRUCTION

• • At what point does a home remodel become considered new construction?
  • Gauged by wall replacement lineal footage or a percent of home alteration/remodel?
  • Increase in square footage?
  • New home mandatory measures triggered
